We had such a great day today. Busy, but amazing. Noah's 4 1 year molars are finally cutting the surface (breakdown: FUSSY, IRRITABLE TODDLER ALERT) so it was vital that he have a good nap this a.m. before our busy day. They have been threatening to come through for ages now and I am still not fully convinced they are going to make their grand debut. But it does look like at least 2 of them will cut through anyday. Because of that, he's been throwing all out tantrums, latching onto our legs, whining constantly and basically being a child that I absolutely don't recognize! It's like overnight he's turned into a b-r-a-t.
Anyway, despite his tantrum throwing and fussiness, we had a very busy weekend all around. Yesterday was slammed with logistical things and then barbequeing with friends last night. And then today once Noah finally woke up from his much needed nap, we headed out to have lunch with our friends Stacie, David and David II in celebration of DII's 1st birthday. We went to a local Hawaiian restaurant called En Fuego and had so much fun laughing with them and giving DII his presents from the Bealls. He's having his MASSIVE (and I mean it will be the size of our wedding - that is Hawaiian tradition) 1st birthday party on Saturday right next to Pearl Harbor and we can't wait. But because of the size and craziness of next weekend, we wanted to give him our gifts in a quieter setting!
After lunch, we went back by our house to get Piper and our cooler and we headed up to the North Shore. We met up with a lot of the folks Dan works with and their families and grilled out while watching a polo match! Yep, Hawaiians play polo too. And it was so cool: behind us were the gorgeous mountain ranges and just on the other side of the field was the Pacific Ocean.
Our dog ran around and played with all of the other dogs and Noah had a ball (note the photo of the French Mastiff, or "Turner and Hooch" dog, below. He belongs to our friend Kiersten and is QUITE intimidating but for the most part a sweet dog). He was so excited to see his first horses up close and he was really excited - albeit confused - by the 14 skydivers that kept falling out of the sky onto the field before the match!
Noah finally passed out in his stroller after chasing one too many horses and dogs and for that, we were thankful. He needed the rest and we needed the break! We had so much fun just taking in the beauty and being with friends.
At the end of the day, we did as we always do and took Noah out to our back patio to let him "play" in the hose naked. That is translated to mean that we let him rinse his own dirty and dusty body off under the guise that it was supposed to be fun!
There are no words to describe how beautiful the North Shore is. It is truly wonderous how God created ALL of it and just allows us to enjoy His Creation day in and day out here in Hawaii. To say we feel blessed is a huge understatement.
